The doorway in the background originally was the main (north) entrance to the building. The addditional room shown through the doorway was added to the building in 1948 to house the second Alternator.

David Jessup > Preparing to move the Rotor.The vertical pipes of two water rheostats can be seen - center & right - in the background. The height of the water witin the tank, seen between the pair of pipes on each rheostat controlled the electrical current flow through the circuit.
